Co-Chairperson

DERRICK STEWART

B.Sc., J.D., MBA

Derrick Stewart serves as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at the Jacobson & Greiner Group. He brings extensive experience in corporate law, real estate development, board governance and strategic leadership across a broad range of sectors. In his role with the Foundation, Derrick is focused on growing the game, supporting educational opportunities for players, and building partnerships that strengthen youth programs and community health throughout Westman.

 

A long-time supporter of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Derrick and his family billet players during the season and are proud to be active members of the Wheat Kings community. Together with his wife Jill, he founded the Hope 4 Holden Charity Golf Tournament, which raises critical funds for rare disease research in support of their son.

 

Beyond his work with the Foundation, Derrick is the Assistant Governor of the Brandon Wheat Kings and serves on the boards of Hockey Brandon and the Construction Association of Rural Manitoba, and recently contributed to the Hockey Manitoba Governance Review Committee.  Above all, Derrick is driven by family and community, working to ensure that the next generation has every opportunity to thrive both on and off the ice.

Vice Chair

GORD DOWHAN

FCPA, FCA, ICD.D

Gord is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Wawanesa Insurance and brings extensive experience in financial management and strategic planning and execution to the Foundation.   Gord was raised in Brandon, where he played minor hockey while being a proud supporter of the Wheat Kings. With a deep-rooted connection to both the team and the surrounding community, Gord played an active part with the 2026 Memorial Cup bid committee.   

 

Gord brings valuable experience from his roles with other organizations including chairing the Future of Hockey Lab finance committee, the Vice-Chair of the Insurance Bureau of Canada finance standing committee, United Way Major Donor Cabinet member and having served as Board Chair for CPA Manitoba.  His experience reflects a commitment to accountability, teamwork, and effective stewardship of resources while contributing to high-level decision-making and governance.

 

Gord, his wife and two kids live in Winnipeg.  Gord enjoys coaching kids’ hockey and baseball and continues to play as the starting goalie for Wawanesa Insurance in the annual Bad Hockey for a Good Cause, United Way fundraiser.

JASON ROBLIN

CPA CA, ICD.D

Originally from Pierson, Manitoba, Jason moved to Brandon in 1999 to obtain his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Brandon University.  Jason then began his public accounting career with MNP LLP in 2004, where he earned his Chartered Accountant Designation (now CPA) in 2007.  While working with MNP LLP, he worked with small businesses primarily focused on the agricultural sector, small businesses, as well as with First Nations.

In September 2011, Jason joined Vionell Holdings Partnership (VHP), where he continues to lead the company through real estate investment and property management.  Jason also has an active role as Vice President of Operations for the Western Canada Hockey Academy.  Jason and his wife Brianne own and operate two retail stores in Brandon – Once Upon a Child and Plato’s Closet. 

In addition to serving on the Brandon Wheat King Foundation Board, Jason has served on the board of directors for the following organizations: Hockey Brandon, Westman Communications Group, Genesis Hospitality and the Assiniboine Community College Foundation.

 

Jason has completed board governance training through the Institute of Corporate Directors (Rotman School of Business) in 2018.

 

Jason, Brianne and their daughter Brynley enjoy living in Brandon close to family and friends.  They have opened their home to Wheat King players as billets since 2020 and don’t often miss a Wheat King game.

Treasurer

BRADEN COMPTON

Braden Compton is Treasurer of the Brandon Wheat Kings Foundation board and an accountant at J&G Group. He holds a CPA designation after attending the Asper School of Business and also serves as Treasurer of the Hockey Brandon board.

​

A lifelong Brandon hockey fan, Braden grew up playing the sport and attending Wheat Kings games, and his family even billeted a Wheat King player for a time.

 

He brings to the Foundation a strong background in financial reporting, non-profit board experience, and a passion for hockey and education that aligns closely with the Foundation’s objectives.

 

Outside of hockey, Braden is a music enthusiast and plays guitar in Brandon-based band 43 Collective.
